After a heads-up match that lasted about an hour and a half, the Quantum came to an end, and it is with great pleasure that we crown Jiachen Gong! The last 2 men standing traded chips and words, playing for a $17,000 difference in the best of moods. That light atmosphere was due in great part to Armand King’s entertaining behaviour, that kept Jiachen, the staff and the crowd smiling. His great spirits will be remembered. Here are some of the things he said while playing a fierce game:
- “It must be a terrible thing to play for a multi-million-dollar first prize. Just that is quite hard on the ticker!”
- “A lot of people my age are in nursing homes wearing oversized pampers, and I’m here with you.”
- “This thing is worst than working!”
He also took a napkin in the midst of a good-sized pot to wipe the Champion’s Trophy that was sitting between the 2 finalists! He sure put on a great show, and a also a great fight!
Jiachen brought himself up to a 2/1 chip lead, then Armand got back even. And Jiachen did it again, slowly grinding, and showing great patience. He didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks, until the blinds got to 250K/500K/a75K. Armand limped from the button, and Jiachen shoved with . Armand had 5,925,000 out of the 18,500,000 before the hand, so he decided that wasn’t going to let this 500K go away, and placed the call with .
The board came , and Jiachen had dodged Armand’s outs.
Congratulations to both players!
