Event 10 in the World Cup of Cards was a $100 + $10 Dealer’s Choice event that attracted a total of 64 runners who clearly had a great time choosing between the 6 different games available to them today. For the record, the two top choices were 5-Card PL Omaha and Crazy Pineapple, with the other games being requested about evenly.
Once Glen Hammers was eliminated there were just two players remaining: Marcello Simonetti and Dave Jeanneau-Cyr. Dave had enjoyed a large chip advantage since the beginning of the final table, but it’s not like Marcello was the small stack all along – in fact, he was extremely active and when he needed chips found a way to double – usually through Dave – which would propel him right back into 2nd place by chip count.
By the time heads up action began, however, Dave had at least 80% of the chips (or more) and Marcello was looking for a good spot to double. Dave made this really difficult through his aggressive use of his stack – textbook play for such a situation.
It wasn’t long before Marcello pushed from the button preflop in a 5-Card Omaha hand and Dave found his holdings adequate for the call.
Dave’s pair of sixes were ahead as the board was dealt out: – he had drawn the flush for the win.
Event 10 Champion: Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, $2,038
2nd place: Marcello Simonetti, $1,410
