Event 11 Champion: Andre Pelletier

2016/08/31 - 5:21 by Playground Poker

Event 11 of the World Cup of Cards was a mixed event, where the game would alternate from NL Hold’em to Pot Limit Omaha from one round to another. Over 100 players turned up for the event, and once the re-entry period was over, the total number of entries climbed up to 130.

Andre Pelletier won a massive pot leading up to the final table, and although he saw much variance in his chip count throughout the last few levels of play, he ended the night with all of the chips in play.

Once heads-up play began between Andre and Glen Alexander Meehan, they paused the clock to work out a small deal. As Andre has the chip advantage, he locked in a prize of $2,700, and Glen took $2,500. The tournament does require a winner, and at least 2% of the prize pool must be set aside for the eventual champion, who also wins a WCC Champion’s Trophy – so $250 was left aside to play for, as well as the title.

Within a few moments of play, they were both dealt a 4-card hand they deemed worthy of an all-in, and in a pot / re-pot battle all the chips went into the middle pre-flop. Glen tabled King of Spades King of Hearts Queen of Hearts 4 of Clubs, but was beat by the Ace of Spades 7 of Diamonds 5 of Spades 4 of Spades of Andre, who improved to aces-up on the 7 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds 4 of Spades 9 of Spades Ace of Diamonds board to be crowned Event 11 champion.

Congratulations!

Lachapelle Durand can’t beat Meehan

Alexandre Lachapelle Durand and Glen Alexander Meehan went to war a few times here in 3-handed action, however Glen got the best of it.

The biggest double-up Glen saw was when his King of Clubs 10 of Hearts overcame the Queen of Spades Queen of Diamonds of Alexandre. Moments later, he scored another double up with 4 of Spades 4 of Diamonds over Ace of Spades 9 of Diamonds, this time crippling Alexandre to just 1 big blind. Andre Pelletier finished the job on the next hand, bringing the event down to heads-up play.

Andre (1,165,000) has Glen (785,000) out-chipped, but with the blinds up to 40K / 80K and a full round of PLO coming up, this is really anyones game.

Joseph Kennedy had 175,000 when he moved in first to act in a NL Hold’em round. He was isolated by Alexandre from the small blind, and play went heads-up.

Joseph: King of Spades 9 of Spades
Alexandre: Ace of Spades 4 of Spades

Both players made a flush on the Jack of Hearts 3 of Spades 6 of Spades 2 of Diamonds 8 of Spades board, however Alexandre got the best of it with the ace-high flush.

“At least I can say I went out with the second nuts…” said Joseph, with a grin on his face.

A chip and a chair is not enough for Dubeau

  • Level: 21
  • Small Blind: 15K
  • Big Blind: 30K
  • Ante: 0
  • Chip Average: 315K
  • Remaining: 6
  • Entries: 130

After being crippled to just 1,000 before the break, Shawn Dubeau was pleased to see that his 1K chip was chipped up to 5K during the chip race, effectively five-tupling his stack.

He was even more pleased to see that on the first hand back, a player was eliminated, allowing him to ladder up. In addition to all of this, he managed to win the next two pots, bringing his stack up to 45,000. Players started murmuring about the “a chip and a chair” tale, all curious to see if it would come to life tonight. On his third all-in however, his Ace of Spades 7 of Clubs fell second-best to the King of Clubs 10 of Hearts of Joseph Kennedy, sending him him in 7th place and ending his hopes for a massive comeback.

7th place: Shawn Dubeau – $580.00
