Seniors’ Event Champion: Malcom Harold Fraser

2016/09/05 - 4:07 by Playground Poker

Event 17 in the World Cup of Cards hosted at Playground Poker Club was reserved for players of 50 years and up, as it was a $200 + $20 Seniors’ NL Hold’em Event.

115 players stormed the tournament hall in anticipation of becoming the Seniors’ Event Champion, and this created a prize pool of $22,310.00. The winner was scheduled to take home almost $5.5K, however a deal occurred amongst the final 8 players where the prize pool was distributed according to the stack sizes of the players.

Play became fast and furious following the deal, as only a small portion of the prize pool was reserved for the eventual winner. Even heads-up play between Allan David Petitclerc and Malcom Harold Fraser lasted all of two hands, as Allan c-bet his stack after opening preflop, and Malcom called with middle pair. The turn and river brought no change, and with that pot Malcom was crowned Event 17 champion.

Congratulations!

With the average stack below 10bb, the pressure of the blinds is ever increasing.

Michel only had a few blinds when he moved in with JTo, however he fell to the QTo of Malcom to end his run in 5th.

Shelly was taken out by Bob T shortly after, and the final 3 players are now playing fairly even-stacked.

(Prizes are based on the 8-way deal that occurred earlier)

4th place: Shelly Rapp – $2,545.00

5th place: Michel Merlitti – $2,440.00

As is often the case after a deal has been made, play has considerably opened up on this final table of Event 17.

Short-stacked Benoit Laurence was eliminated moments after the agreement took place, and he was quickly followed by Medhat Ramzy, who was also quite short during the deal.

Shelly Rapp doubled through Bob T before knocking out Jared Newcombe, bringing the field down to 5 players.

The final 8 players in the Seniors’ Event have come to an agreement.

Since the tournament requires a tournament champion, the structure dictates that an extra $450 is to be left for the eventual winner. The players decided to remove $50 from each of their prizes and created a second prize up top, to make the time spent playing for the win a little more interesting. There is now an extra $650 reserved for the eventual winner, who also takes home the WCC Champion’s Trophy, and an extra $200 prize for the eventual runner-up.

Below are the figures that players have locked in, based on a slightly modified ICM chop:

The final table of the Seniors’ Event has just seen two quick eliminations, bringing the field down to just 8 remaining.

Stephen Standen was short stacked to start the final table, and moved in with King of Hearts 10 of Hearts on the first hand of play. He was up against the Ace of Diamonds 6 of Spades of Shelley Rapp and the Jack of Spades 9 of Hearts of Diana Shamshoum, but with no help on the 4 of Spades 8 of Diamonds Queen of Clubs 7 of Spades 3 of Hearts board, he was sent to the rail in 10th place.

Diana, who lost some chips prior to the final table, was also on the shorter end of the leaderboard. We missed the action however the last of her chips went to Bob T, as her KTs fell short to his ATo.

9th place: Diana Shamshoum – $620.00
