Jean-François Daunais crowned in Event 20

2016/09/07 - 21:26 by Jôle Simard

Event 20, a $100 + $10 NL Hold’em 8-Max, has come a close as heads-up play just ended after just about 15 minutes of back and forth. With the Champion’s trophy sitting by their side and $400 waiting for the winner to be decided, players were cautious. There was some limping, some checking, and a few all-in hands favoring the shortest stack.

When Jean-François Daunais took almost all of Mario Pagé’s chips, he was a big favorite to take this tournament down. Mario caught a small break by doubling up, but then came the fatal hand. Daunais had Ace of Diamonds 10 of Spades, and Mario was holding Queen of Diamonds 10 of Hearts. The shortest stack was in a dire spot, as both players shared a card and he had the worst kicker.

The flop came 6 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts, hitting that higher kicker. The 4 of Spades 2 of Spades continuation was just a formality, and Jean-François pumped his fist in victory.

$100 + $10 NL Hold’em 8-Max Champion: Jean-François Daunais, $2,090

After a deal is made, only leaving extra prizes, things usually speed up. This was the case here, as we lost Matthew Bracanovic and Tony Farcy. Matthew raised all-in from the small blind with 2 of Spades 2 of Clubs, and Tony called him from the big blind with 5 of Clubs 5 of Hearts. the board Jack of Hearts 10 of Clubs 8 of Clubs 9 of Hearts 4 of Diamonds was no help to Matthew’s deuces, and he went out in 4th place, taking home a cool $1,625.

A couple hands was enough to take a lot of chips away from Tony though, as the big blind is now 60K. He was forced to call Mario Page’s all-in with the 10 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds. Mario had Ace of Spades 6 of Clubs, and the board came. 5 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds King of Hearts 7 of Hearts. Ace high was enough, and Tony Farcy took 3rd place, and $1,800.

Their respective money prizes were already decided though, as previously detailed, and Jean-François Daunais and Mario Pagé are now playing for the extra money, the very cool Champion’s trophy, and the bragging rights.

Good luck to both!

Below are the 4th and 3rd place finishers:

When the tournament went down to a 4-way affair, players quickly started talking about a deal. They decided to look at the ICM numbers, and finally decided they were going to play for $400 and the Champion’s trophy up top, while securing 4 nice amounts for themselves.

  • Tony Farcy – $1,800
  • Jean-François Daunais – $1,690
  • Matthew Bracanovic – $1,625
  • Mario Pagé – 1,420

Good luck to all 4 remaining players, who are playing for $400 and the Champion’s trophy!

We missed the action on the hand that crippled Éric Lacombe, one hand before his elimination, but we know that he was all-in for less on the small blind on the following hand, holding Jack of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds. This hand was not enough to survive Matthew Bracanovic’s King of Diamonds 8 of Hearts. He goes home with a cool $850.

Congratulations!

7th place: Marco De Pasquale; 6th place Karyn Gemmill

  • Level: 20

  • Chip Average: 315K
  • Remaining: 5

Marco De Pasquale found himself in a blind versus blind battle, and Matthew Bracanovic had him at risk. Marco had Queen of Spades 10 of Diamonds and Matthew had the 7 of Spades 7 of Clubs. The board came Jack of Hearts 3 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs Ace of Diamonds 8 of Hearts, and that sent Marco home with a nice $500 pay.

Then it was time for Karyn Gemmill to leave us. Jean-François Daunais went all-in with King of Spades Jack of Spades, pushing his stack for the 2nd time in 3 hands. Karyn was in the big blind, and was very short stacked by then so she looked slowly at her cards, to find 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts. She called right away, with a big smile on her face, as she found a really nice hand to put it in with. but the board did not favor her. King of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds 4 of Spades.

Congratulations to both!

8th place: Peter Zelmer

  • Level: 19
  • Small Blind: 10K
  • Big Blind: 20K
  • Ante: 3K
  • Chip Average: 263K
  • Remaining: 6
  • Entries: 105

2016/09/07 - 19:11 by Jôle Simard

After a lot of all-in hands that have seen the smallest stack win the race, we lost Peter Zelmer, as he lost his own race against Karyn Gemmill. Marco De Pasquale raised the 16K big blind to 35K from the button. Karyn quickly raised all-in for a little over 100K, which was called for less by Peter from the big blind. Marco folded, and the other two tabled their hands. Karyn had 7 of Hearts 7 of Diamonds, and Peter had the slick, Ace of Spades King of Hearts. The board came 9 of Spades 7 of Clubs 8 of Clubs 9 of Hearts King of Diamonds, and Peter Zelmer went home with $380.

Congratulations Peter!
