Brady Hinnegan wins the CPPT World Cup of Cards

2016/09/13 - 21:22 by

The new level was only about 10 minutes old when the final hand was upon the players, though the hand started innocently enough. Tomas had lost a few more chips than he had on the last break and was starting to be quite short-stacked when he limped and Brady checked behind to see a flop.

Flop: Queen of Clubs King of Diamonds 9 of Clubs

It was an action flop, but the action went check-check and the dealer laid out the turn 6 of Clubs. Brady bet 200K and Tomas made the call. The river was an action card for Tomas – the 5 of Spades. Brady opened to 300K and Tomas chose to go all in – only to meet with a snap call from Brady, who instantly flipped over his Jack of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds for the flopped straight. Tomas was disappointed that his rivered 2nd pair – he held Queen of Spades 5 of Clubs – was no good but he took it like the pro he is and congratulated Brady on the victory.

With the elimination of Elie A, heads up play between the two final players surviving in the tournament has begun. The players still in contention for the massive $110,000 first prize are Tomas Larivee Magni and Brady Hinnegan. Second place will make $78,000, so it not exactly going to be a hardship to come in 2nd – but both players are also playing for pride and the trophy, both of which sweeten the pot considerably!

Blind levels have been reduced to 30 minutes in length.

While we were preparing that last post a hand developed that vaulted Tomas back to the head of the table – he’s currently playing over 5M in chips.

Immediately following this Elie and Brady got involved in a hand that saw another massive change. Elie raised pre to 225K only to be met by Brady’s shove of 2.1M (approximately). Elie quickly called and the players turned over their cards.

Elie: King of Spades Queen of Diamonds
Brady: 10 of Hearts 10 of Spades

Brady’s pocket pair held up on community cards Ace of Spades 7 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs and Elie has been knocked down to being the short stack.

He committed his short stack (around 1.5M) just a few hands later and found a call from Brady once again.

Elie: 10 of Spades 10 of Diamonds
Brady: Ace of Spades 10 of Clubs

Elie was instantly dreading the Ace held by Brady, and his fears held up when after a flop and turn of Jack of Clubs 5 of Hearts King of Spades 4 of Clubs, the famous Ace of Hearts came on the river. Elie finished the tournament in 3rd place for $58,000.

Play in the CPPT World Cup of Cards continues to be 3-handed, and the pace of play continues at an impressive rate – there’s no stalling or excessing tanking as most of the spots seem quite comfortable for all of the remaining players.

That being said, Tomas Larivee Magni did take a huge hit a few orbits ago when his 5 of Hearts 5 of Clubs was called by Brady Hinnegan, who was at risk in the hand and held King of Hearts Queen of Clubs. Brady made a gutshot on the 6 of Clubs Ace of Hearts Jack of Hearts flop though the 9 of Hearts was safe enough for Tomas and his small pair. The King of Spades on the river gave Brady a better pair and they effectively switched spots on the leaderboard.

Laurence Louie takes hits and finally falls

  • Level: 29
  • Small Blind: 40K
  • Big Blind: 80K
  • Ante: 10K
  • Chip Average: 3.6M
  • Remaining: 3
  • Entries: 359

2016/09/13 - 18:20 by

Laurence Louie has been very active all afternoon and very talkative as well, particularly since the tournament became short-handed. For the most part he has been among the leading stacks as well, far from any stack-related of blind-related danger. Safe, that is, until the last 30 minutes.

Laurence’s troubles began in a huge hand against Elie A, where after a raise and a called 3bet pre, the flop was dealt 10 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts. Laurence led out with a bet of 185K and Elie called. The turn was the 8 of Clubs and Laurence bet 285K only to face a raise to 570K from Elie. He made the call and the river was dealt: 5 of Clubs. Laurence checked and Elie bet 1M chips… and Laurence went in the tank for at least 3 minutes. This was not a solitary, alone-with-his-thoughts tank however – he was dancing all around the edge of the permitted table talk (but never really getting close to going over) and finally called the clock on himself. By the time the countdown got to 5 seconds, he announced that he’d save everyone some time and just fold.

Elie chose to show 8 of Hearts 8 of Spades for the rivered boat.

A couple of minutes later, Brady raised to 130K under the gun and Laurence took the initiative to shove over top from the bb. Brady had succeeded with several raise-and-take-its in the previous orbit or two and Laurence seemed to be trying to take some initiative against his shorter-stacked opponent. Eventually Brady made the call and the cards were on their backs.

Brady: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts

Laurence: 4 of Spades 4 of Diamonds

The flop brought Brady from behind: 6 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds 8 of Hearts and the turn and river 9 of Spades Queen of Spades didn’t help Laurence and he dropped to below 10bb as the blind level moved forward almost instantly after the hand.

The final hand for Laurence came just a few minutes later when he shoved from the button and found a call from Elie A.

Laurence: King of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds
Elie: 9 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs

The flop gifted Laurence an 8 of Spades along with the Ace of Hearts and 10 of Diamonds but he couldn’t capitalize when the Queen of Clubs and 4 of Diamonds were dealt. Laurence was at the end of the road in 4th place.

4th place: Laurence Louie, $44,500
