Shawn Daigle wins his second World Cup of Cards trophy

2016/09/13 - 22:55 by Jôle Simard

After an unbelievable heads-up match that saw Marc-Olivier Crête survive no less than 13 all-ins, Shawn Daigle was finally able to deliver the last blow.

There were 660K in play and in the end, the blinds were 15K/30K, which means that a turn or a river bet was 60K! About 20 minutes before the end, Marc-Olivier had 25K in front of him, 20 of which was placed as a big blind. That’s when the crawling started. He never really came back to even, he just could not lose an all-in… swinging from 25K to 100K 5 or 6 times, winning 13 all-ins in a row.

In the last hand – some started to believe there wasn’t going to be one – Shawn Daigle had Ace of Hearts 4 of Diamonds, and Marc-Olivier had King of Hearts 10 of Hearts. When the Ace of Spades 6 of Clubs 5 of Spades flop came out, it seemed like that was it, but Shawn still thought Marc-Olivier would make runner-runner straight, or trips. The 8 of Clubs shook that away from him though, and he realized he managed to get out of this dream!

Shawn can now place his trophy besides the one he earned by winning the Big Ante Event!

Congratulations!

Chad Coombs and Frédéric Breton went out 3 hands apart. Both had so little chips, they were all-in by the time the flop came, in a limit format!

Chad went out with King of Diamonds Jack of Clubs against Shawn Daigle’s Ace of Hearts 9 of Diamonds. The board 2 of Clubs 8 of Spades 7 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds 7 of Clubs was no help for Chad. He takes 4th place, and the $470 prize that goes with it. He adds that to the 2nd place he managed to pull in Sunday night’s shootout!

Then it was Frédéric Breton who left us, his Ace of Diamonds 7 of Hearts falling to Marc-Olivier Crête’s Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs. The board was 3 of Spades 9 of Diamonds Jack of Spades 10 of Diamonds Jack of Clubs couldnt produce an ace, and Frédéric took $700 for his efforts, the cash amount awarded to the 3rd place finisher.

Congratulations!

The top 7 players decided they would remove $100 from the 1st prize and give it to the bubble boy. That boy turned out to be Borislav Angelov. Then they played for about 25 minutes before another elimination happened.

It was Jean-Philippe Tremblay who took 6th place. They went to the flop 3-way, in a 3bet pot. The flop came King of Diamonds Jack of Spades 9 of Diamonds. Jean-Philippe bet the last of his chips on that street, and Frédéric Breton and Chad Coombs raised each other until Frédéric was all-in. But he didn’t mind that , having flopped the nut straight!

  • Jean-Philippe: 9 of Spades 8 of Clubs
  • Frédéric: Queen of Spades 10 of Clubs
  • Chad: Ace of Diamonds King of Spades

The dealer put out the rest of the board: 6 of Diamonds King of Clubs. Frédéric practically tripled up, and Jean-Philippe went the cashier to pocket his $210 prize money.

The hand after, Glen Hammers went out. We unfortunately missed the action, but we know he took $320 for his efforts, as he went out 5th.

Congratulations to both!

The limit tournament has now dropped to 2 tables, and play could hardly be more casual. Players are having fun, discussing the differences between limit and no limit. This player is happy that he could see a turn for cheap, that player is disappointed that he could not take the pot on the flop with a sizable bet, but all take the windings to and fro of the chips with a light-hearted demeanor.

Jean-Philippe Tremblay is our chip leader right now, counting just over 100K. Six players will make the money, and we will be there when the moment approaches.

In the early rounds, we captured a board that we thought we would share with you… something you don’t see everyday! Here it is:
