The All-Stars for Starlight returned to Playground Poker Club for the World Cup of Cards, and as per usual the $25 rake for every entry was donated to the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada – a charitable organization dedicated to bringing laughter, joy and hope back into the lives of children with serious illnesses. With 850 total entries across 4 starting flights, Playground was happy to help raise a big donation for this worthy cause.
Day 2 of the event saw 165 players return to the felts, all seeking for the victory, the WCC Champion’s Trophy, and the $21,000 prize that comes along with it all. At the end of the day, only 10 remained in contention and they returned tonight for the conclusion of the tournament.
Once play fell to 3-handed, the stacks evened out and the remaining players decided to make a deal. Since all three held roughly the same amount of chips, they opted to split the money evenly, all the while leaving the required difference for the eventual winner – who would also collect the WCC Champion’s Trophy. Samuel Chaput, Tommy Coulombe and Charles La Boissonniere therefore locked in $14,465 each, with an additional $1,502 set aside for the winner.
Samuel was the first to fall after the deal, as he opened up his game considerably to his dismay. Heads-up between Tommy and Charles lasted for well over an hour, as the shorter stack kept finding a way to win. Finally Tommy made a running flush to double up to most of the chips in play, and then won it all on a flip, as his
held versus the
of Charles. He can now add the WCC Champion’s Trophy next to his Playground Poker Montreal Festival Bracelet that he won some two years ago.
Congratulations!
All-Stars for Starlight Champion: Tommy Coulombe – $15,967.00
