All-Stars for Starlight Champion: Tommy Coulombe

2016/08/30 - 2:20 by Playground Poker

The All-Stars for Starlight returned to Playground Poker Club for the World Cup of Cards, and as per usual the $25 rake for every entry was donated to the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada – a charitable organization dedicated to bringing laughter, joy and hope back into the lives of children with serious illnesses. With 850 total entries across 4 starting flights, Playground was happy to help raise a big donation for this worthy cause.

Day 2 of the event saw 165 players return to the felts, all seeking for the victory, the WCC Champion’s Trophy, and the $21,000 prize that comes along with it all. At the end of the day, only 10 remained in contention and they returned tonight for the conclusion of the tournament.

Once play fell to 3-handed, the stacks evened out and the remaining players decided to make a deal. Since all three held roughly the same amount of chips, they opted to split the money evenly, all the while leaving the required difference for the eventual winner – who would also collect the WCC Champion’s Trophy. Samuel Chaput, Tommy Coulombe and Charles La Boissonniere therefore locked in $14,465 each, with an additional $1,502 set aside for the winner.

Samuel was the first to fall after the deal, as he opened up his game considerably to his dismay. Heads-up between Tommy and Charles lasted for well over an hour, as the shorter stack kept finding a way to win. Finally Tommy made a running flush to double up to most of the chips in play, and then won it all on a flip, as his 3 of Spades 3 of Clubs held versus the King of Diamonds Jack of Hearts of Charles. He can now add the WCC Champion’s Trophy next to his Playground Poker Montreal Festival Bracelet that he won some two years ago.

Congratulations!

Samuel Chaput’s game radically changed once the deal was made, and he opened his range and began playing almost every hand.

He chipped down to around 3-million before opening his button to 500,000, and called the rest off facing a big blind shove by Charles La Boissonniere.

Samuel: King of Hearts 4 of Hearts

Charles: 6 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds

Charles found a 6 on the 6 of Clubs King of Diamonds Jack of Spades 7 of Clubs 9 of Spades board to bring the event down to heads-up versus Tommy Coulombe.

Charles La Boissonniere was the short-stack in 3-handed action, however once he doubled up through Samuel Chaput just moments ago, all three players found themselves with virtually even stacks. They asked to pause the clock to talk deal, and decided to split the prize pool evenly, leaving the required $1,502 extra for the eventual winner – who will also take home the sweet WCC Event 6 Champion’s Trophy!

They have now locked in $14,465 each, and are playing down to a winner – all with smiles on their face!

Congratulations!

Tommy: Ace of Spades 7 of Clubs

Tommy found an ace on the 6 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts 8 of Diamonds board to add 3-million more chips to his armory, which now totals 7.3 million.

The final table of the All-Stars for Starlight is on its second break of the night, and the tournament staff is racing off the no-longer-needed T5,000 chips.

Samuel Chaput was the short stack until moments before the break, where he doubled up with Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts over the Ace of Spades Jack of Spades of Sagar Shetye for a pot north of 4.5 million.

Charles La Boissonniere has taken over the chip lead in this most recent level of play, however the race is very tight at the top. He scored a big double up with King of Diamonds King of Spades over the Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts of Samuel several orbits ago, and has been chipping away at pots ever since.

Below are the counts of the final 4 players as they head to level 33 :
