Crazy Pineapple Bounty Champion: William Blais

2016/08/29 - 3:42 by Playground Poker

Event 7 of the World Cup of Cards was a first here at Playground Poker Club, as it followed a Crazy Pineapple structure – meaning players go see the flop with 3 cards in hand, and discard one of their choice after the betting round on the flop, but before the turn card is revealed. To make things even more interesting, there was a $50 bounty prize awarded for every elimination!

A total of 130 players turned up for this fun and innovative tournament, generating a prize pool of $18,915.00, and once play reached the later stages of the game, one player in particular began standing out. William Blais was sitting with over 20% of the chips in play as the tournament reached the bubble, and he arrived at the final table of 9 with almost 40% of the chips in play.

His stack took a big swing midway through the final table, as he lost a huge pot to his neighbour Maurice Simard, however he quickly regained the lead and even went on to knock out the final 4 players to claim the WCC Event 7 Champion’s Trophy. In addition to his $4,500 first place prize, he also tallied a total of 15 bounty chips plus his own, bringing his total cash prize up to $5,300!

Congratulations!

Event 7 Champion: William Blais – $4,500.00 (plus 16 bounty chips of $50 each)

Maurice Simard has gone on a virtual roller-coaster ride these last few orbits, as he saw his stack go from chip lead to less than 1 big blind, then back up over the average.

In the most recent hand, he called the open-shove of chip-leader William Blais in a battle of the blinds.

William: Ace of Hearts 6 of Diamonds
Maurice: Queen of Hearts 9 of Hearts

Board: 6 of Hearts 6 of Spades 9 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts 8 of Spades

William flopped three-of-a-kind and dodged Maurice’s outs to eliminate yet another player, bringing his bounty chip count up to 13!

William Blais has been very aggressive since he doubled through Maurice less than 3 orbits ago, however has found himself on the losing end of most of the hands he was involved in. He has since doubled Maurice up twice, and Martin Welch and Mehdi once each.

Sitting under the gun, he open shoved his 450,000 stack, finding an under-call from Daniel Pepin and his 410,000 from the big blind.

Both players discarded on the 3 of Spades 8 of Spades 8 of Hearts flop, and William tabled Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds while Daniel showed a better Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds. The turn 10 of Spades brought no change, however the Queen of Spades secured the win for William, who scored the knockout and a pot of 905,000.

The 4 remaining players have now paused the clock to negotiate a potential deal. Here are the current counts:

William Blais has just taken back the lead here on this final table of Event 7.

In a heads-up pot between the two big stacks William and Maurice, action exploded on the turn and a 1.25 million chip pot was created.

With 5 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds 9 of Hearts Ace of Diamonds showing, William tabled 9 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds and had Maurice Simard and his Ace of Spades 8 of Clubs drawing dead (river 6 of Hearts).

Maurice was left with only 14,000 after the hand, and managed to win the following two hands to bring his count up over 200,000.

In the mean time, William doubled Martin Welch up for around 200,000 – but he still leads the field with a hair under 1-million.

  • Chip Average: 520K

2016/08/29 - 2:27 by Playground Poker

Keith Laflam was crippled a few hands ago, and with only 29,000 to his name he found a quadruple up to bring him back into the 6-figures. He lost most of it to William Blais on the next hand, and found himself once again very short-stacked – this time with 36,000.

He paid the 2,000 ante, and then moved in for 34,000 first to act. Martin Welch made the call, and Daniel Pepin then 3bet to 70,000. Vasilios Sklavounos moved all-in for 68,000 from the big blind, and Martin committed the extra chips.

Martin and Daniel both checked the 5 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds flop, and all 4 players discarded a card.

Martin checked on the 5 of Spades, and Daniel bet enough to put his opponent all-in. Martin cut out his stack, and then slid forward his last 78,000 to close the action.

Keith: Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds
Martin: Jack of Hearts Jack of Clubs
Daniel: Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts
Vasilios: 6 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts

The river was the 2 of Diamonds, and Martin’s full house was good enough to scoop the pot of 422,000, earning him two $50 bounty chips in the process.

5 players remain, all on the hunt for the Event 7 WCC Champion’s Trophy, and the $4,500 prize that accompanies it!
