Raphael Duval is our partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Canada champion!

2017/08/21 - 22:59 by Playground Poker

The partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Canada has just come to a close after over a month of starting flights, both online on partypoker and live at Playground Poker Club. The event kicked off the World Cup of Cards, and attracted a total of 3,746 entries (788 online entries, and 2,958 live entries), falling short of the massive $1,000,000 guarantee. The prize pool was then adjusted to honor the guarantee, bringing a ton of value for players who participated in this event.

422 players managed to book a Day 2 seat (90 online, and 332 live) of which 27 returned for Day 3. The final table was formed when only 9 players remained, with Raphael Duval leading the pack. In fact, from the moment Raphael took over the chip lead near the end of Day 2, he never let go of it. He remained faithful to his post all the way through Day 3, onto the final table and into heads-up play. It was no surprise then to see him become the Grand Prix Canada Champion, although Debra Ann Holman made him work for the title during heads-up play.

Raphael did a great job at keeping the pressure on his heads-up opponent, and after seeing a string of poor cards Debra was virtually blinded out of the tournament. With under 3 big blinds left she woke up with Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds and moved in, finding a call from King of Diamonds 8 of Spades. Both players held the lead at some point in the hand, but it was inevitably Raphael who won the pot by rivering a flush on the Queen of Spades 6 of Clubs King of Spades Ace of Spades 5 of Spades board to seal the deal, crowning him as our newest Grand Prix Canada champion! He took home a massive $200,000 for the win, while Debra pocketed $125,000 for her runner-up finish.

Congratulations!
