Dustin Melanson wins the 50/50 Bounty Event

2017/08/25 - 2:52 by Playground Poker

The $500 + $100 + $500 NL Hold’em 50/50 Bounty, part of the World Cup of Cards, brought together a solid 144 player field. Although the top 15 were officially in the payouts, players were awarded prizes throughout the day as the structure included a $500 Bounty chip for every elimination.

After 30 hands of hand-for-hand play, many players were blinded down which lead to a series of quick eliminations prior to the final table. Once the 10-handed final was formed, it was Tanvir Ahmed who was first to go, closely followed by Sofiane Boulila. It took about an hour before we saw the next elimination, when Bradley Copestake made a move with a flush draw which lead to his demise. George Caragiorgas was the next to bite the dust after a battle of the blinds saw him eliminated in 7th place.

A few back-to-back eliminations then occurred as a few players grew rather short in chips. Alexandre Blanc, Lucas Drolet and Patrick Braga were all knocked out within a few hands of each other, bringing on 3-handed play.

Once Alexandre Lavigne eliminated Clayton Grunberg in 3rd place, he began heads-up play with a slight advantage over Dustin Melanson. Within a few hands Dustin was able to spin things around to take a 2-to-1 chip lead. He then limped in for 50,000 from the small blind and 3bet all-in after Alexandre raised to 150,000. With a total count of 1,220,000, Alexandre tanked for while before finally throwing in his bounty chip.

Dustin was holding Ace of Clubs 4 of Hearts and was a slight favourite over Alexandre’s King of Clubs Queen of Diamonds. With a runout of 4 of Spades 6 of Clubs 8 of Hearts 5 of Hearts Ace of Hearts, Dustin was crowned champion of Event 10, taking home $16,750 in payouts, plus $4,500 in Bounty chips, and of course a stunning WCC Champion’s Trophy. Alexandre pocketed a cool $12,840 for his runner-up finish, plus a few Bounty chips.

Congratulations!

Event 10 Champion: Dustin Melanson – $16,750.00 and 9 $500 Bounty chips

Runner-up: Alexandre Lavigne – $12,840.00

We caught up to the action on the turn, where the majority of the chips went in between Alexandre Lavigne (big blind) and Clayton Grunberg (button). With the board showing Queen of Diamonds 7 of Spades 3 of Spades King of Clubs, Clayton tabled top-top with Ace of Hearts King of Hearts and was trailing the two-pairs of his opponent, who was holding King of Diamonds 7 of Hearts. Clayton had a handful of outs that would see the pot get shipped his way, but he was ultimately buried by the 3 of Hearts river.

Heads-up play is now underway between Dustin Melanson (1,650,000) and Alexandre Lavigne (1,950,000) as they play for a $16,750 top prize, which will be accompanied by a WCC Champion’s Trophy and any $500 Bounty chips acquired by the players.

3rd place: Clayton Grunberg – $9,500.00

4th place: Patrick Braga ($7,100)

  • Small Blind: 20K
  • Big Blind: 40K

During 4-handed play, Patrick Braga moved all-in first to act for 330,000 and Dustin Melanson put him at risk from the mall blind.

Patrick: King of Hearts 9 of Diamonds
Dustin: Ace of Hearts 8 of Diamonds

Dustin paired his Ace in the window and went on to eliminate Patrick on a Jack of Hearts 2 of Spades Ace of Diamonds 7 of Hearts 7 of Clubs to bring the field down to just 3.

4th place: Patrick Braga – $7,100.00
