Melissa Clayton is crowned Champion of the Women’s Event

2017/09/02 - 3:40 by Jôle Simard

Event 21 was a $135 + $15 women-only Event, and attracted 44 players. Linda Huard, who took 6th place in the Strangers in the Night Event and its 631-player field, showed up for the Women’s Event. So did Alyssa MacDonald, the winner of Event 4, a 6-max Bounty Event, and Kassandra Dawn Cox, who finished 6th in that same Event, and 4th in Event 2, a Shootout tournament.

It is with a mixed field of accomplished poker players and recreational players that Event 21 unwound. Linda Huard got to third place, leaving Judith Bombardier and Melissa Clayton heads-up.

The heads-up match didn’t last very long, but we did see one monster clash. In a pot that was min-raised pre-flop and checked by both players on the flop, Melissa went all-in on a 9 of Diamonds Ace of Clubs 6 of Spades 5 of Diamonds board. Judith covered her and called pretty fast, holding the promising King of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds. The river was a blank, and Melissa’s Ace of Hearts Ace of Spades held.

Judith was left with about 100K, or 15% of the chips in play. She did double them up on a coin flip, but lost them all when she open-jammed a flopped pair on Melissa’s top pair.

Melissa Clayton was left alone in the tournament, with her posse clapping from the rail. Congratulations!

The Women’s Event Champion: Melissa Clayton – $2,820.00 and the Champion’s Trophy

Runner-up: Judith Bombardier – $1,880.00

We unfortunately missed Sara Watt’s elimination hand, but we know that she had gotten pretty short after doubling 2 short stacks, and that Melissa Clayton got her chips. Sara left in 4th place, worth $850.

Linda Huard followed, when her King of Spades 5 of Clubs was passed on the river by Melissa’s Queen of Hearts 10 of Spades on the 2 of Hearts 2 of Spades Ace of Clubs Jack of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds board. Good job Linda, your 3rd place gets you $1,260!

Melissa Clayton and Judith Bombardier, who had 1 big blind and a half at the last break, are now heads-up. Melissa started with a 2 to 1 lead, but is now slightly behind. Good luck!

When Melissa Clayton limped from the under-the-gun position, Jasmine went all-in from the button, and found a call. Her Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs was looking really good when Melissa tabled King of Hearts 10 of Hearts, but the river brought a king, and Jasmine had to leave the table. She cashes $380 for her efforts.

A few hands later, Patricia Carvalho found herself all-in for her tournament life with 8 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds against Judith Bombardier’s Ace of Hearts King of Spades. The board came Ace of Clubs Jack of Clubs 10 of Hearts 4 of Spades Jack of Diamonds, hitting Judith hard, and Patricia left with $570, the 5th place money.

Congratulations!
