David Djian scoops the Mega Stack

2017/09/06 - 5:27 by Jôle Simard

Event 24 was a $300 + $30 NL Hold’em Mega Stack Turbo Event. It featured a $30,000 guarantee, which was blown out of the water by the 145 players who participated. This field indicates that players enjoy working with a lot of chips, even in a turbo structure.

16 players were paid tonight, with $10,000 up top for the winner, and 4-digit prizes running all the way down to 9th place. When 2 tables were left, play accelerated considerably, as the fast increase of the blinds forced many short stacks to commit. Play slowed down a little bit when it got 4-handed. Srinivas Gottiparthi was the shortest, and was the first to go after the break.

After a few orbits of 3-handed play, Tony Farcy was trailing noticeably, not being able to catch a break when his opponents were putting pressure, until he decided to push his stack forward from the button. David Djian went all-in himself, which sent Kurt Vaters to the tank. He was reluctant to commit his healthy stack on that hand, favoring a nice heads-up match with David, but decided that his hand was too strong to fold. He called.

Tony Farcy: King of Spades 7 of Spades
David Djian: King of Diamonds King of Clubs
Kurt Vaters: 9 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs

Over 90% of the chips were in play. The dealer put out the community cards: 4 of Hearts 6 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds 2 of Spades. This dry board spelled Tony Farcy’s elimination, while crippling Vaters. His remaining chips went in on the following hand, but his 10 of Diamonds 8 of Spades met Djian’s Queen of Clubs Queen of Hearts. Back to back monsters for the win!

Congratulations!

The winner of the Mega Stack: David Djian – $10,000.00 and the Champion’s Trophy

Runner-up: Kurt Vaters – $7,945.00

3rd place: Tony Farcy – $5,600.00

Srinivas Gottiparthi had a very good Event, even taking the lead when 4 tables were left. He forced his way to 4-handed action, but in the end, his Ace of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds looked to good to fold with such high blinds, and he fell to David Djian’s Queen of Diamonds Queen of Spades. He cashes $4,200. Well done!

Tom Kim Tien thought he had an easy double up, but his kings lost to nines when 2 other nines appeared on the board for quads! Tom takes $3,200 for his deep run. Congratulations!

4 players took a short break, and play resumes now.
