Andrew Watt drove here from Edmonton around 2 weeks ago to prepare himself for the World Cup of Cards, and after grinding the partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Canada all of last week (he placed 316th for $800), he went on a heater and won back-to-back events in one day!
He started by winning Event 5 this afternoon, besting a field of 87 runners in a $100 + $10 NL Hold’em Big Ante tournament to take home his first WCC Champion’s Trophy, along with a cash prize of $2,165. Andrew was also 2nd on the WCC Leaderboard Challenge to start the day behind William Blais, but his win in the Big Ante tournament put him ahead in the race. Now with another win under his belt he is in a good place to finish first in Week 1 of the leaderboard, where the top prize is a $530 PowerFest ticket on partypoker. The overall winner of the TLB which includes every Event in the WCC is set to take home a sweet Caribbean Poker Package, which includes flights for 2 and accommodation along with a $5,300 Main Event ticket.
Andrew late registered into Event 6, a $100 + $10 NL Hold’em Single Rebuy tournament along with 137 other runners (of which 29 made a rebuy), and went straight to work doubling up in the first levels of play. The tournament was set to pay the top 14 finishers, however when play reached the final 15 they all agreed to pay an extra spot and omit the bubble.
A few quick post-bubble eliminations saw the 10-handed table form with Lesly Meunier at the head of the pack. Alexandre Paliotti arrived as a very short stack and was send to the rail fairly quickly. He was followed by Ryan Press and Steven Duguay before Andrew Watt kicked into first gear and began bulldozing the table. He scored two double-eliminations in the span of one level, singlehandedly sending Albert, Martin Lafleur, Ian Armorer and Richard Gagne to the rail. In between the double eliminations, Lesly had her final say with Wing Seto after an evening of confrontations between the two lead to his demise.
When heads-up play began, Andrew and Lesly were even stacked, and the chips swung in both directions for the better part of 3 levels before the final hand took place. Andrew Watt, now with a 4-to-1 chip lead, open-shoved from the small blind and was met with a snap call from his opponent. The two were in a 50/50 race, with Andrew holding 
and Lesly 
. Lesly needed to connect with the board in order to stay in the game, but the 
board ran in favour of Andrew Watt, who was now at the end of a very successful 14 hour session.
Andrew was awarded a second WCC Champion’s Trophy in addition to the top prize of $3,885, while Lesly earned a nice consolation prize of $2,954.
