The die dictated the game this hand: 5-Card Pot Limit Omaha.

With five cards in your hand it may feel like there are a lot more possibilities than in a usual two card game. Perhaps this was why six of the eight players at the table saw the flop. It was limp-city on table 59.

Flop: 7 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 4 of Clubs

However, once the flop came down and a few people checked, Marcus Cara decided it was time to get rid of the extra weight. He shoved, albeit only for 17,300 chips. Not to be outdone, the other short stack at the table, Nick Nickoletopoulos, shoved over top. He too didn’t have a huge stack, but his 25,900 shove was enough to chase everyone else from the hand.

Marcus: 6 of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds King of Diamonds 7 of Clubs

Nick: 8 of Hearts 9 of Hearts Jack of Hearts 8 of Spades Ace of Spades

Board: 7 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 4 of Clubs 6 of Hearts Jack of Clubs

Nick’s 8-9 made him a Jack-high straight and took out Marcus, almost doubling up. But as the blinds are rising at a steady pace, Nick will need to pull off a couple of more double-ups just to stay in contention.
