Patrick Bernier wins Event #19

2019/02/03 - 21:30 by

Patrick Bernier – who at one point on the final table was down to just 55K in chips – has emerged as the winner of Event #19 in the World Cup of Cards at Playground.

The head up match against Stuart Linnen lasted about a half hour during which they kept roughly equal stacks. Eventually, though, a hand came that would signal that the end of the tournament was near (though not yet over).

Patrick got it in with King of Spades 9 of Clubs after Stuart limped his Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds to trap on the button/sb. Stuart made the call and Patrick saw the bad news – he was dominated. But although poker is primarily a game of skill, luck is involved, and Patrick would benefit in this hand. The window card on the flop was 3 of Diamonds, but the other two cards: King of Clubs and Queen of Clubs seemed to signal what was to come.

Turn: 5 of Clubs
River: 6 of Clubs

Patrick had made his flush! When the stacks were counted down, Stuart had just 60K in chips remaining.

He was all in the very next hand holding 10 of Diamonds 9 of Spades compared with Patrick’s Queen of Clubs 7 of Spades – the so-called “computer hand”.

Flop: Jack of Clubs 6 of Spades Jack of Clubs
Turn: 7 of Diamonds
River: 3 of Hearts

Patrick’s two pair Jacks and Sevens took the pot, and the win!

Event #19 Champion: Patrick Bernier, $1,660

Final hand of the tournament

2nd Place: Stuart Linnen, $1,835
