Over on table 35 Sergei Gurin opened with a raise to 1,200 and was re-raised by Jonathan Camara to 2,800. After some thought, Nectarios Lazaris joined the party, although he didn’t seem sure if he wanted to at first.
The flop came down , and this time both Sergei and Jonathan checked. With such a luke-warm reaction to the flop, Nectarios figured his cards were the best out there. He jammed for a little over 20,000. Sergei, however, begged to differ. He check-shoved for just slightly more than Nectarios, also around 20,000. This was all that Jonathan needed to see, and he bowed out.
The two left in the hand flipped over their cards, with Sergei at a huge advantage, holding vs Nectarios’ suited . Unfortunately for Sergei, luck was not on his side this hand.
Even though he was a 90% favorite to win the hand at this point (and although the turn was an inconsequential ) the river came down as a , making trips for Nectarios’ and completing the unlikely win.
But Sergei’s no quitter, he quickly re-bought in order to try his luck again. He did so just in time too – registration is about to close in the next few minutes!
