Matthew Paiva has taken the overall chip lead in the Grand Prix Canada following Online Day 1C on partypoker last night. Having accumulated 2,600,000 chips following 18 levels of play (starting from 100K), Paiva will be in very good shape going to Day 2 on January 27, playing a 130bb deep stack.
Online Day 1C featured another 100 entries in the tournament, and 11 more players have qualified for Day 2, making a total of 35 qualifiers to date. Among the other qualifiers last night were prominent local players Philippe Plouffe and Ruben Perceval. One-time Playground poker dealer Griffin Mason has also made his way through to Day 2 via the online route, qualifying with a healthy 72bb stack.
Players have two more opportunities to qualify for Day 2 via online flights, tonight and Thursday evening at 8:00pm on partypoker. Today also sees the beginning of the Live starting flights in the event with Day 1A set to begin at 12:00pm today and Day 1B scheduled for 5:00pm.
