Tag Team: We have a winner!

2019/01/21 - 2:47 by Playground Poker

The winner in the first event in the World Cup of Cards, the $400 + $40 Tag Team, is Team Vincenzo D’Elia!

After approximately 90 minutes of heads up play (and three switches between tag team partners) the final hand was played by Miguel Goncalo (of Team Brigitte Metivier) and Anthony Meli (of team Vincenzo D’Elia).

Both players felt they had worthy cards and jumped all in preflop. The board was dealt 5 of Clubs 9 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds Ace of Spades, but unfortunately for Miguel his 6 of Spades 6 of Hearts couldn’t beat Anthony’s 7 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs.

Team Brigitte Goncalo take home their ICM Chop of $7,710 (-$250) and 2nd place. Congratulations!

However, an even bigger congratulations go out to Team Vince! Well done boys!

You’ve truly earned your 1st place win as well as your prize of $7,415 + $1,000 (-$250), or $8,165!

After losing chip leaders Team Bill Kontaratos from the final table (finishing in 4th with a prize of $8,105), we then lost perennial chip leaders Team Stuart Taylor (finishing in 3rd for $7,015), it was down to 2 teams. They are:

After the group lost one team and the final table was down to 5, the dynamic shifted slightly. After 10 or 15 hands with little chip movement, the group decided to ask for another ICM chop count.

Once Playground staff had determined the split, everyone agreed that their share was fair. However, now we were up against that same sticky issue – how would the $1,000 be split? There is no choice – it is required to be pulled back from the total amount so that it could be added to the eventual winner’s share.

This time, the chip leader insisted that he would not only not pay his equal share (now $200 from each team). He insisted he would pay nothing at all, and that the 4 remaining teams could split the $1,000 evenly or nothing.

Surprisingly, all the remaining teams were so exhausted by the day’s play that they almost instantly agreed!

And, as is common after a chop at the final table, the very next hand was an all in. This time it was Team Sylvain Lessard that shoved. He had pocket 6’s. Unfortunately for him, he came up against Team Stuart Taylor’s pocket 9’s.

The flop was dealt 5 of Clubs Queen of Spades Ace of Hearts 5 of Hearts Ace of Diamonds, and Team Sylvain’s night was over. He took home his ICM Chop of $7,265, minus $250.

Congratulations on a tournament well played!

Once there remained only 6 players at the table an ICM chop was requested.

Once the numbers were tabulated and shared with the group, everyone agreed that the amounts promised them were fair, and it was only a matter of deciding how to apportion the $1000 that had to be removed from the collective pie, reserved for the eventual winner.

Split evenly, each team would have to pay a total of $167 to cover the $1000, but that was unacceptable. One of the smaller stacks insisted that the chip leader pay significantly more. The figure initially quoted was $500, which the chip leader felt was unfair.

When they couldn’t come to a decision, it was decided that they would all simply continue to play. The very next hand Team Luigi Fantigrossi (the shortest stack at the table) caught a pocket pair of 10’s. They shoved.

Team Vincenzo D’Elia called, but he had pocket jacks, and he made a set on the flop.

That was the end of Team Luigi’s night, meaning they collected only $2,830 for their 6th place finish. Under the ICM, they would have pulled in $4,885. Minus the $167, of course.

It is also important to keep in mind the “Even Chop” number, which in this case would be$5,281.25 per player (assuming an equal split0.

Because this tournament has been going on for a long time today, it might be tempting for the remaining players to think about making a deal, potentially chopping up the pot in some form or fashion.

As it currently stands, the prizes for a game with no chops will be doled out as follows:

1st: $11,620

2nd: $8,760

3rd: $6,600

4th: $4,970

5th: $3,750

6th: $2,830

7th: $2,120

8th: $1,600

As the blinds rise ever higher and the stacks seem smaller and smaller in comparison with every hand that passes, Team Guylaine Poirier felt it was time.

They ended up shoving preflop for approximately 100K just now, and Team Brigitte Metivier shoved over top for about 700K. There there were no takers, and the board was dealt.

10 of Hearts 4 of Diamonds Jack of Hearts 5 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts

Team Brigitte’s Ace of Spades King of Clubs dominated Team Guylaine’s Ace of Clubs 9 of Spades, and the field shrank by one.
