And our champion is Ernest Kelly

2019/01/30 - 20:24 by Playground Poker

The final hand may have determined the winner of the WCC Event #13 Deepstack Turbo, but the writing was on the wall several hands earlier when Ernest Kelly hit the full house to fatally wound Eric Perrier.

When Eric went in with pocket tens, 10 of Hearts 10 of Clubs, his odds of winning the pot looked pretty sound. But Ernest’s hole cards were 5 of Hearts 6 of Spades, and when the community cards were dealt, 5 of Clubs 6 of Hearts 4 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs, Ernest won 90 percent of Eric’s stack.

Although Eric valiantly attempted to battle back, Ernest’s big stack was just too much of a hurdle to overcome.

When the last hand was played, Ernest raised all in with 8 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds and Eric called. His hole cards were 10 of Hearts King of Hearts. But the community cards were on Ernest’s side as they came down 5 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts 8 of Spades 6 of Diamonds 2 of Clubs.

As runner up, Eric’s take of the prize pool was $2,342.

As the winner, Ernest takes home $2,650, the trophy, and a champion’s bragging rights.

Congratulations to Ernest for grinding it out to the finish line!

Updates for Event #13

2019/01/30 - 19:31 by Playground Poker

We’re now down to four players at the WCC Event #13. The players are dropping like flies as the blinds and antes continue to rise, and players continue to go all in at mind-boggling pace.

Chris Arvanitis pushed all of his chips into the pot with Queen of Diamonds 9 of Clubs. But Ernest Kelly called with Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts.

When the community cards came down 5 of Hearts 3 of Spades 10 of Clubs 3 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds, Chris’ tournament was over.

Two hands later, Eric Perrier knocked out Stuart Taylor, who went all in with Ace of Hearts 5 of Clubs. Eric was hold Ace of Spades Jack of Diamonds.

The community cards came down 7 of Hearts 2 of Spades 6 of Spades Jack of Clubs Queen of Spades, and Stuart walked away from the table.

After Stuart’s departure, the four remaining players reached an agreement. They agreed on a chop as follows:

Eric Perrier – $2342
Jonathan Marasco – $1620
Ernest Kelly – $2390
David Dusome – $1900.

The foursome will continue to duel it out for the remaining $260 dollars in the prize pool, the tournament trophy, and bragging rights.

David Dusome is having a good run at the World Cup of Cards, 2019. This is his fourth final table, having placed in the top five in the following events: Event #2 165 Turbo, Event #7  PLO Bounty, Event #12  Roll the Dice, and now Event #13 Deepstack Turbo.

When I mentioned that making the final table in four events is quite the accomplishment, he insisted that it felt good, “But winning one would feel even better.”

The players have just returned from their third 15 minute break, and level 17 has just kicked into gear. During the pause in the action, the stacks were measured, and it was determined that Jean Bernard Audet has taken a substantial lead.  His chip count was 550,000. At the same table, Marc Lavergne weighs in with a stack count of 368,000 chips.

Marc, who hails from Ottawa, is a proud father of two, an entrepreneur by day, and a poker player by night, has been staying in town for the past five days to enjoy the WCC events. “I’ve been bricking out, but I’ve been having a wonderful time!” Despite a lack of success this week, Marc notes that he’s feeling lucky today, “I have good feeling about this tournament.”

The WCC Event #13 Deepstack Turbo has now been reduced to 20 players, and the bubble is approaching fast.

We’re down to 28 players. That just 10 more busts till we hit the bubble.

The action is really starting to heat up at table 59.  Peter Zelmer raised 12,000, preflop, and Daniel Gennings called before Haipeng Pang pushed 20,500 of his chips towards the pot.

Peter pondered long and hard about his next move. In the end, he called. Daniel mucked.

When Haipeng revealed his cards he was holding pocket aces, Ace of Clubs Ace of Diamonds. Peter’s hole cards were Jack of Hearts King of Clubs.

When the community cards were dealt, 7 of Clubs 8 of Hearts 2 of Spades 10 of Clubs 8 of Clubs, Peter received no help, and Haipeng scooped up his winnings.

During the writing of this post, two more players have been eliminated. That leaves just 26 competitors left in the hunt.

After the players’ first 15 minute break, Stephane Faucher had opened up an 80,000 chip lead over the next closest stack. But following the competitors’ second 15 minute break, at the end of level 12, Stephane has been dragged back towards the pack. Although his stack is one of the top five, he no longer holds the lead.

At present Jason Kastner is our front runner, but only by the slimmest of margins. His chip count of 146,000 puts him just a 1,000 chips  in front of Travis Robertson, who is nipping at Jason’s heels with a stack of 145,000 chips.

And just 2,000 chips further back, in the show position, is Ernest Kelly, whose stack measures 143,000 chips.

The average stack size is currently 76,000 chips. So the race towards the prize money, and the final table is really tightening up.

Stay tuned to see who makes it into the top 17, and a share of the WCC Event #13 Deepstack Turbo moolah.

While I was walking around the tables, looking for some action, I heard one of the players, who had apparently fired a second bullet, jokingly cry the blues, “Do re-entries come with kleenex?”

Another player quickly retorted, “Yeah, they’re complimentary after the third re-entry!”

Some laughter and chortling occurred.

A few moments later, I watched as Raphael Tran Dinh knocked Sasan Mehrabian out of the event when both players went all in.

Preflop, Marc Gravel raised, splashing 4,000 chips into the pot. But when it was Sasan’s turn to bet, he went all in.  Two seats to Sasan’s left, Raphael also pushed all of  chips towards the dealer. Marc folded.

When the players turned over their cards, Sasan was holding pocket queens, Queen of Hearts Queen of Spades. But Raphael held King of Hearts King of Diamonds.

When the community cards were dealt, 7 of Spades 8 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts 2 of Clubs, Sasan stood up and left the table, and Raphael raked in his pot.

Stephane Faucher is the the front-runner

The players have just returned from their first 15 minute break following six levels of play. The start of level 7 marked the end of late registration.

We currently have 92 entries, with 32 bullets re-fired.

During the pause in the action we counted the chips and discovered that Stephane Faucher has opened up a huge lead over the rest of the field.  His 187,000 chips  were 80,000 better than his next closest competitor, Jean Bernard Audet, who clocked in with 107,000 chips.

The average chip count currently stands at 43,404. That means Stephane is close 140,000 chips ahead of the players running in the middle of the pack.

The question is: can he keep up the pace, or will the rest of the field hunt him down?
