Veronica Dick is the Women’s champ!

2019/02/03 - 0:35 by

When the dust settled on the recent spate of eliminations, just two women were left at the table: Manon Lucasnszky and Veronica Dick. During the final table, each doubled up the other at least once, and despite the other talented players left with 5 remaining, both of them remained among the leaders throughout final table play.

Heads up play was destined to be a short affair. The blinds were very high relative to the stacks in play – and just as importantly, both of the players had been among the most active throughout the final table. After just a couple of hands between the players in which Veronica had managed to build up a decent chip advantage, the final hand presented itself. Manon pushed with 9 of Clubs 8 of Hearts and was quickly called by Veronica with King of Hearts 4 of Hearts.

The flop was pretty rough for Manon – Veronica went way ahead when the dealer put out 6 of Hearts King of Diamonds 10 of Clubs. Manon did earn a few straight outs, though she also lost any one-pair outs that might have been present preflop. The turn 4 of Spades was a blank, and the river came out Jack of Diamonds… no help for Manon, and Veronica was the Champion!

Just two women remain…

2019/02/03 - 0:20 by

The recent rush of eliminations have brought the tournament to its final phase: heads up play. Manon Lucsanszky and Veronica Dick have been battling it out all afternoon – particularly on the final table. It’s only fitting that they face off for the additional $159 in cash, plus of course the WCC Champions Trophy.

Good luck to both women!

Desjardins, Reyes next to go

2019/02/03 - 0:10 by

Line Desjardins has been the next player eliminated from the Women’s event, only a few hands after the field was reduced to 4 players.

The hand was blind on blind between Line and Manon Lucsanszky and saw Manon’s Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs hold against Line’s King of Spades Queen of Hearts on a 2 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts 7 of Diamonds 8 of Spades board.

Just two hands later, Manon was again all in, this time having called the shove from Michelle Reyes.

Michelle: Jack of Clubs 4 of Clubs
Manon: Ace of Hearts 5 of Hearts

The board ran out Jack of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 10 of Spades 3 of Hearts – Manon made a Wheel straight for the win!

3rd place: Michelle Reyes, $1,195

4th place: Line Desjardins, $1,280

Once the player agreement was made with 5 remaining in level 17, the pace of play slowed tremendously and only now, after almost 90 minutes of play, has another player been eliminated. Shelly Rapp lost most of her stack to Michelle Reyes when her King of Diamonds Queen of Spades lost to Michelle’s Queen of Hearts 8 of Hearts on a 8 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 9 of Spades 8 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts board – and she shipped her remaining chips over to Michelle on the very next hand.

The final table in the Women’s event continues to move at a record pace. Veronica Dick, it turns out, was responsible for the first 3 eliminations – and then just a couple of hands later, she took out two more!

Play was then paused in the event while the players discuss a deal – but not before Manon Lucsanszky could take a significant pot from Veronica, taking over the chip lead with 5 left.

The player deal is quite simple – they chose to reserve $159 and the Champion’s trophy for the winner and distribute the rest of the prize pool as follows:

Veronica: $1,555
Shelley: $1,205
Michelle: $1,195
Line: $1,280
Manon: $1,700

The deal was quickly agreed to and play now continues.

There are just 10 players left in the Women’s event and so they have been brought together on the final table in the event. The players have made a quick deal in the event, which was slated to pay 8 places. The women agreed to take $150 from 1st place and award it to the player in 9th, and to take $100 from 2nd place and award it to the player in 10th. Therefore, everyone is in the money now! Congratulations!

Update: While we were preparing this seating table, one of the first hands in the final table led to a 4-way all in – and 3 players eliminated: Shaw-Ying Chaw, Judith Bombardier, and Melanie Valiquette-Bouchard.

Papineau hits the rail

Nathalie Papineau is the latest in a list of players eliminated since the last break, during which the tournament has gone from 18 players remaining all the way down to 12.

Nathalie got it in from utg and action folded around to Line Desjardins on the button, who shoved her leading stack over the top to isolate. This was successful and there were to players, with Nathalie at risk, to the flop.

Nathalie: King of Hearts 9 of Hearts
Line: Ace of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

The community hards held little for Nathalie: 8 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 2 of Clubs Queen of Spades – and Line stacked her chips, adding to her dominant stack.

There are still 17 players left in the Women’s Event and play is set to continue at a cracking pace as the chip average is just over 10bb! That’s a recipe for fast action – we’ll see how quick things go in the next level or two.
