Danny Ibrahim is the Card Player Poker Tour Champion!

2019/02/06 - 22:56 by Playground Poker

It was a grueling day of poker full of action and packed with seasoned poker professionals. We started the day with 64 competitors, with only 40 slated to be paid. As the group made its way towards the final table we lost a lot of big names. That said, once the final table was formed the field was still very strong.

After four hours of intense play the final four players decided upon an ICM chop. That helped speed the tournament along, but it still took another 90 minutes to crown our champion. And that champion is Danny Ibrahim!

Although Danny is an experienced poker player, this is his biggest win to date. On top of his ICM-apportioned win of $42,070, he also gains the $6,000 kept in reserve for the winner. In the end he takes home a prize of $48,070, the trophy, and many great memories from a fantastic day of poker.

Congratulations Danny.

The hand that won the tournament was a preflop shove, as they so often are in heads up battles.

In this case it was Danny’s King of Diamonds Queen of Clubs vs Michael’s 7 of Spades 8 of Hearts. The board came down Jack of Diamonds King of Hearts Jack of Hearts 2 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds and that was all she wrote for Michael.

And of course we can’t forget Michael Mckinnon, who finished in 2nd place and won a prize of $28,600. He was the short stack for almost all of the final four action, and so he is to be credited for his patient play and well-timed bets keeping him in the hunt until the very end. Well done!

After ten hours of play, we have finally reached the last two players. Out in third was Luigi Fantigrossi.

Luigi’s final hand was a preflop shove with Jacks. Danny Ibrahim had an A-8, which paired on the flop. Congratulations go out to Luigi, who had a fantastic tournament. He takes home $46,040. Well done!

The two left standing are Danny Ibrahim and Michael Mckinnon, seen below staring each other down.

Good luck to both players.

After an hour of play 4-handed after the ICM chop had been agreed to, we finally lost our first player. That was Amir Babakhani, whose 4th place finish earns him $40,180. Congratualtions!

The hand that took him out was an all in shove preflop, A-2 vs Danny Ibrahim’s A-9.

Danny Ibrahim has had a wild few hands.

The latest began with Patrick Braga raising to 125,000 from the big blind, which was raised by Danny to 400,000. The small blind took a walk and Patrick shoved over top of the 400,000 for the rest of his stack. Danny called and they both flipped their hole cards. Patrick had a Queen of Spades 4 of Spades , but Danny had him dominated, holding a Queen of Hearts Jack of Diamonds. The board was dealt 8 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds 7 of Clubs 9 of Clubs Ace of Clubs , and that was it for Patrick.

Patrick’s 5th place earns him a healthy $14,740.

After Patrick’s elimination the final four requested the numbers for an ICM chop, just out of curiosity. With the top four prizes totaling $160,000, the results were interesting.

Once the numbers were read out, the players were required to put aside $6,000 for the winner. They decided that an even split of $1,500 each was unacceptable, so Michael stepped up to make the deal work, offering to take $200 off each of the other three players’ amount of $1,500. This way, he would pay $2,100 and the others would chip in $1,300 each.

After that was factored in, Luigi’s portion became $46,040, Amir’s $40,180, Michael’s was $28,600 and Danny was at $42,070.

With that, the deal was done, everyone agreed to their cuts, and play will now continue for the trophy, 1st place bragging rights and the extra $6,000. Good luck to all!

This is the second time that Danny Ibrahim has doubled up in the last 30 minutes. This time his benefactor was Michael Mckinnon. The hand started innocently enough, with Michael raising from the small blind to 125,000. Danny called in the big blind and they saw the flop come down 6 of Clubs 4 of Hearts 5 of Clubs.

This time Michael checked to Danny, who bet a paltry 75,000. Michael called and a 10 of Hearts came down on the turn. Michael checked again, and this time Danny bet 125,000, still a relatively small amount. Michael raised him to 500,000, at which point Danny shoved and Michael insta-called.

It turns out that Danny had made a straight on the river, flipping over his 7 of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds. Michael’s King of Clubs 10 of Spades didn’t look so good now, and when the Queen of Spades came down on the river Danny doubled up and found himself in a much better position moving forward.

Danny Ibrahim doubled up just now, and he took more than half of Patrick Braga’s chips with him. Patrick now only has 400,000 chips left. The hand began with a preflop shove by Danny, called by Patrick. Danny’s 9s outlasted Patrick’s 8s, and the balance of power began to shift as we work our way down to the final few players.

Patrick has shoved on the next two hands, but has not been called. Yet.

Marc Lavergne was just eliminated in 6th, netting himself a prize of $12,210.

He lost his last hand in a heads up battle against Luigi Fantigrossi. After Luigi opened with a raise to 155,000 Marc shoved with Queen of Diamonds Queen of Spades. Luigi flipped over his King of Spades King of Hearts and the dealer did his thing. The board came down spade-heavy, with 6 of Spades 2 of Spades Jack of Spades and an 8 of Spades coming first. The last card was a Queen of Clubs making Marc’s set, but the turn had already sealed his fate, with Luigi making a higher flush.

Samuel Ferland-Picard was just eliminated in 7th place, earning himself $10,250. He was taken down by Michael Mckinnon, whose pocket Aces were better than Samuel’s pocket Jacks on a preflop jam.
