Shortly before the latest break, Manfred Gunther got a new lease on his tournament life.

We picked up the action when all the chips went in on a Jack of Diamonds 2 of Clubs Jack of Hearts flop. It was a three-way pot and Gunther had two all ins in front of him. He decided to call off his stack to take a shot at the huge pot that had been built. His opponents had Ace of Clubs Jack of Spades 4 of Clubs 3 of Spades and Jack of Clubs Ace of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 8 of Hearts, each with trip jacks. Gunther was drawing thin with his King of Spades King of Hearts 4 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts. The turn brought the 8 of Spades, giving one opponent jacks-full-of-eights. But the river produced the King of Clubs, giving Gunther the top boat!

Gunther now finds himself among the chip leaders as play continues in level 12.

The players have just returned from their second break of the evening, and the field has been reduced to only 26 players. The hectic action action from the first break to the second, as the players showed their willingness to take chances, even after the end of the re-entry period. Our chip leader at this first break, Fadi Haddad, continued to accumulate chips during the last few levels, but he was overtaken by our new chip leader, Darryl Wettlaufer.

The surreal action continues on table 32, as Andreas K just took down another huge pot in an unlikely fashion.

Andreas was under the gun in seat one when the blinds were 1K/2K and bumped it up to 4K. The action folded to Joey “Birdman” Boczek in seat four, who raised it up to 14K. Fairly standard so far, but everything that followed was anything but standard. The player in seat six, Calvin Lake, raised all in out of turn, as the player in seat five, Andres Ojeda, was about to make the call. Ojeda went ahead and made the call, and Lake was bound to his out of turn action. The raise led to folds that brought the action back around to Andreas, who quickly made the call. From there, Boczek went all in over the top, forcing Ojeda to fold and was called by Andreas. Hands were tabled:

Andreas: 2 of Diamonds 3 of Spades 9 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts

Boczek: Jack of Hearts 9 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 10 of Clubs

Lake: Ace of Diamonds Ace of Spades 4 of Spades Jack of Clubs

The board ran out King of Diamonds 6 of Clubs 4 of Clubs 3 of Hearts 2 of Spades, giving Andreas the pot after turning a pair and rivering a second. The players at the table took a few moments to scrutinize the hands, as they tried to figure out exactly what happened and who won. Once it became, clear a player at the table was heard asking “is this real life?”

The action continues in level 11 with 27 players remaining.

The field has been shrinking quickly in Event #24, but those who remain each want to be in for the long haul to the top of the prize list at the end of the night. The top eleven finalists will reach the money tonight, and now that only 32 players remain that money bubble has begun to dawn on many in the field.

Here’s a look at some of the remaining players:

The numbers are in, confirming the huge success of Event #24. The big turnout and numerous re-entries have built a prize pool that more than doubled the guarantee. There could still be a long way to go before we reach the money, as the chip average provides more than 40 big blinds, but if the action keeps up the pace we saw in the early going then 40 blinds might only be enough for a few hands.

Here is the full breakdown:

1st$4,036
2nd$3,080
3rd$2,350

Even though the re-entry period is over, the players show no signs of slowing down. Big pots and multi-way action are still the norm, as shown in this hand.

With the blinds at 600/1.2K, the action was opened by Joey “Birdman” Boczek from under the gun to 2.9K. This opening raise was immediately met with a three-bet shove from the next player to act, David Dusome, who put in his remaining 5.5K. Dusome’s raise picked up calls from three other players before the action came back to the Birdman, who also made the call. Five players saw the 2 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts flop, and a line check ensued. The turn brought the 2 of Diamonds, and the first player to act, Andreas K, led out with the word “pot.” The 27.5K bet chased out everyone so hands could be tabled. It was 10 of Clubs 10 of Spades 3 of Spades 3 of Diamonds for Andreas against Dusome’s 9 of Diamonds 6 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 3 of Clubs. Although he didn’t need it, the 10 of Hearts fell on the river, giving Andreas the top full house and the big pot.

The players are returning from their first break of the evening, meaning that the late registration and re-entry period is now closed. The wild action of the early levels saw lots of chips change hands, allowing some players to build huge stacks and generating 21 re-entries.

There are now 51 players left in contention, and Fadi Haddad leads them all with a stack of more than triple the current chip average.

The action is heating up in the PL Omaha 3 Lives Re-entry. Although it took a while to register the first re-entry, several more players followed suit in short order to bring the number of re-entries up to twelve.

The players aren’t being shy about pre-flop potting tonight; they seem happy to take their chances and re-enter if necessary. On this hand, a three-way pre-flop all in, a pair of tens won in a three-way showdown!
