New leader following Online Day 1C

2019/01/23 - 9:54 by

Matthew Paiva has taken the overall chip lead in the Grand Prix Canada following Online Day 1C on partypoker last night. Having accumulated 2,600,000 chips following 18 levels of play (starting from 100K), Paiva will be in very good shape going to Day 2 on January 27, playing a 130bb deep stack.

Online Day 1C featured another 100 entries in the tournament, and 11 more players have qualified for Day 2, making a total of 35 qualifiers to date. Among the other qualifiers last night were prominent local players Philippe Plouffe and Ruben Perceval. One-time Playground poker dealer Griffin Mason has also made his way through to Day 2 via the online route, qualifying with a healthy 72bb stack.

Players have two more opportunities to qualify for Day 2 via online flights, tonight and Thursday evening at 8:00pm on partypoker. Today also sees the beginning of the Live starting flights in the event with Day 1A set to begin at 12:00pm today and Day 1B scheduled for 5:00pm.

Online Day 1B is in the books

2019/01/22 - 13:47 by

Last night on partypoker there were 100 new entries in the Grand Prix Canada, and of those, 11 more players qualified for Day 2 in the event.

As was the case on Day 1A, there were a few players of special note among the qualifiers, including the 2nd place overall so far, none other but Sylvain Siebert, the Playground legend who can accumulate chips like no one in the game – but who may one have a single (high) gear.

Also among the Online Day 1B qualifiers is Jonathan Marrie (1,615,000), a former Playground event champion and perennial factor in multi-day tourneys, Adam Cader (1,480,000), and Brady Hinnegan (280,000).

Online Day 1C goes tonight at 8:00pm on partypoker.

The Grand Prix Canada has begun

2019/01/21 - 15:19 by

The first marquee event of the 2019 World Cup of Cards is the Grand Prix Canada, a $200 + $20 NL Hold’em tournament that boasts a massive $500,000 guarantee. There are 17 Day 1s in the event including 5 online Day 1s on partypoker and another 12 Day 1s live here at Playground. Live Day 1s will begin on Wednesday, January 23, but the online Day 1s have already begun – Online Day 1A was held on January 20th at 8:00pm.

This first Day 1 in the event attracted an impressive 114 entries, and after the full 18 levels were played, just 13 players remained, all of whom have qualified for Day 2.

The rest of the online Day 1s will continue this week, and we’ll be recording the Day 2 qualifiers throughout the event in a single Combined results table so players may judge their progress as the Day 1s continue.

Online Day 1B is set to begin tonight at 8:00pm, only on partypoker.
