Alexandre Morel didn’t waste any time calling Michael Bictache when he went all in, preflop. With pocket kings, King of Spades King of Hearts, Alexandre appeared confident that he had the hand to beat Michael.

But when Michael turned over a pair of aces, Ace of Clubs Ace of Diamonds, Alexandre shook his head, and rolled his eyes.

When the community cards were dealt 2 of Clubs 10 of Hearts 5 of Clubs 7 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds, Michael didn’t express his elation until after he saw the river. Then he pumped his fist, and sat back down. Alexandre counted out 209,000 chips, and pushed them towards Michael.

Preflop, Shawn S raised to 27,000. But when his opponent, Nicolas Lavoie Jobin, went all in, Shawn, the big stack at the table, had something to think about. He counted out 125,000 chips, shrugged, and pushed them towards the dealer. “I’m going with my read. Win or lose I’m happy with my call.”

Nicolas turned over King of Hearts Ace of Diamonds. In turn, Shawn revealed pocket eights, 8 of Spades 8 of Diamonds.

When the community cards were dealt, the drama heightened. After the flop came down Queen of Diamonds 7 of Spades 5 of Diamonds, Shawn remarked on the dealer’s sense of drama, and how precise and unhurried he was about turning over the cards. “What are you, some kind of television dealer?”

The dealer smiled, and patiently revealed the turn, a 9 of Hearts. The anticipation mounted. When the river card came down, Shawn erupted gleefully at the sight of the 2 of Hearts.

After he raked in his pot, I pointed my camera at the winner. “Wait, wait!” He insisted, as he pulled up his hoodie. “Dude, I haven’t fixed up my hair.”

It’s a lively group at table 26. As I approached the competitors, one of the the players, Shawn S, told me to stick around. “I’ll give you something to write about during the next hand, I promise.”

Naturally, I stuck around. And once the hole cards were dealt, Stephane Faucher raised to 7,000. Simon Marciano and Shawn both called.

When the flop came down Queen of Spades Ace of Hearts 2 of Diamonds, Stephane bet 15,000. Simon mucked his cards, and after some consideration, Shawn called. “I told you I’d give you something to write about,” he looked over his shoulder, and gave me a knowing nod.

On the turn, the dealer revealed a King of Hearts. Both players checked.

The river was an 8 of Clubs, and once again both players tapped the felt.

But the outcome that Shawn was hoping I would write about didn’t materialize. When Stephane showed his Ace-Jack, Shawn shook his head, and mucked his cards.

The players at the WCC Event #8 Day 1A have just wrapped up their first 15 minute break. During the pause in the action, the chips were counted, and we determined that it is a very tight race at the top of the leader-board. As it stands now, Richard Tossings is the big stack with 283,000 chips, and has a 5,000 chip lead over Kristopher Chartier. And right behind Richard and Kristopher two more players are running neck and neck, less than 15,000 chips from the top.

Level 5 is now underway, and nine players have now fired second bullets. There are currently 90 players in the field, and late registration will continue for another two hours and fifty minutes.
