It was a long day of poker, but after 10 hours of play on Day 1B the field of 125 has been whittled down to 17.

Each of these successful players began the day with 100,000 chips, and now their average stack is up above 700,000. Indeed, a couple of the biggest stacks now reach up above the 1,000,000 chip mark. Below are some photos of the six players that accumulated the most chips today.

And there are still more Day 1s to come! There will be 10 additional live flights and one online flight (on Thursday at 8PM), so there is plenty of time to take your shot and get in the game for the $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.

If you are as successful on your Day 1 as the gentlemen above, lasting all 18 levels, you will be joining a group of elite players at the Day 2 of this event, the $200 + $20 Grand Prix Canada.

Day 2 begins this Sunday, January 27th at 3:30PM.

Congratulations to all the players who finished the day. We’ll see you again later on this week!

Now 7-handed across three tables, the chess match continues. In the latest hand, Tomas Larivee raised to 25K from middle position and only the blinds called.

Flop: 6 of Clubs Jack of Spades 10 of Spades

Both blinds checked the flop and Tomas was again the aggressor, this time betting 48,500. This was too much for Pierre Gauthier (in blue below), but David Bolduc was keen to call and see the next card.

Turn: 7 of Clubs

This time it was checked to Tomas, who now bet 145,000. David thought about it for a couple of minutes. He thought hard. Ultimately he couldn’t make the call, folding his hand.

We’re down to 21 players on 3 tables

  • Level: 16
  • Small Blind: 6K
  • Big Blind: 12K
  • BB Ante: 12K
  • Chip Average: 595K
  • Remaining: 21
  • Entries: 125

Below are some photos of the three tables of players that remain in today’s Day 1B flight. With the average chip stack up around 600,000 and the BB at 12,000, it’s anyone’s guess as to how many will be left by the end of round 18, which is in 80 minutes.

Will it be less than 15? More? We’ll see!

Dallaire’s queens run into Larocque’s aces

  • Level: 14
  • Small Blind: 4K
  • Big Blind: 8K
  • BB Ante: 8K
  • Chip Average: 431K
  • Remaining: 29
  • Entries: 125

We just lost another one. This time it was Stephane Dallaire.

Stephane had what anyone would want with time winding down and the blinds creeping steadily upwards – a pocket pair! He shoved for 143,000, and was called by Andre Larocque. Unfortunately for Stephane, Andre had a pair of aces.

The board was dealt 3 of Clubs 7 of Spades Jack of Spades 6 of Hearts King of Diamonds, and Stephane was forced to take his leave.

Now we are down to only 29 participants, but we still have four levels left to play!

As we passed by a table recently we heard those fateful words: All in.

They were uttered by Robert Aho, who had shoved preflop over the 25,000 bets of Terrence Caulcutt and David Bonneau. Next to play was Terrence, who shoved over top, pushing David out of the hand.

Robert’s cards were good – just not good enough.

Robert: King of Diamonds King of Spades

Terrence: Jack of Hearts Jack of Spades

Terrence made a set on the flop and didn’t look back, busting Robert’s kings and adding to his stack.

Board: 9 of Clubs 7 of Hearts Jack of Spades Ace of Clubs 8 of Hearts

Larivee leads after 12

  • Level: 13
  • Small Blind: 3.5K
  • Big Blind: 7K

After 12 levels of play we have only 43 players left battling it out on the felt. The average chip stack is nearing 300,000, and the leaders are indicated in the list below. However, the player with the most chips so far is Tomas Larivee, who boasts an impressive 918,500 chips.

Francis Abbott903,000
Christopher Savov693,000

Petit takes his leave, the field continues to shrink

  • Level: 12

  • Remaining: 47

2019/01/23 - 23:34 by Playground Poker

Just now on table 31 we said goodbye to one of the (now less than) 50 players still standing in today’s Day 1B flight. This time it was Marc Petit who left us after losing a big pot to Inbal Peretz and then a final (much smaller) throw-away pot to Jason Rosen.

The first handed began with a raise to 12K from early position by Marc which was folded around to Inbal in the small blind. She shoved her remaining stack, which was not substantial, less than 75,000. After a bit of thought, perhaps realizing that he was also relatively short-stacked and may as well go for it, Marc called.

Marc: Queen of Hearts King of Clubs

Inbal: 10 of Clubs Ace of Clubs

The board was dealt Jack of Clubs 7 of Diamonds 4 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds and Marc reluctantly doubled his opponent up.

With less than 40,000 chips still in his hand Marc’s body language indicated that he would shove on the next hand no matter what, and that he did. Leave it to lady luck to give him a pretty decent hand to shove with on his way out the door. Jason Rosen called.

Marc: 7 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs

Jason: King of Clubs 9 of Diamonds

The board came down 4 of Spades Queen of Clubs Ace of Clubs 3 of Clubs King of Spades, and Marc’s pair didn’t stand up. He packed up his jacket and headed for the door.

Registration is now closed for the Grand Prix Canada Day 1B

  • Level: 11
  • Small Blind: 2.5K
  • Big Blind: 5K
  • BB Ante: 5K
  • Chip Average: 223K
  • Remaining: 56
  • Entries: 125

2019/01/23 - 22:58 by Playground Poker

Today’s second flight of the day, Day 1B, is now officially closed to new registrants. There were a total of 125 entries (including 31 re-entries), of which 56 currently remain.

Now playing 9-handed across seven tables, the players will do their best to accumulate chips in preparation for Day 2, which will be played on Sunday January 27th at 3:30PM.

Good luck to all the players as they work through the last eight 30-minute levels. Plenty of poker still left to play!
